01 // BESS APPLICATIONS

Storage designed around the project.

The required battery power and energy capacity depend on the grid connection, operating strategy, site constraints and commercial model. We design the complete system around those parameters rather than starting from a fixed product.

01 / UTILITY-SCALE

Grid-connected BESS

Battery storage for grid balancing, ancillary services, energy shifting and other utility-scale applications. System architecture is developed around the available connection point and required operating profile.

  • MW-scale battery systems
  • PCS and EMS integration
  • MV/HV transformer and switchgear
  • Protection, metering and SCADA
  • Grid-code and commissioning support
02 / INDUSTRIAL

Industrial energy storage

Behind-the-meter storage for industrial facilities where load profile, contracted capacity, power quality or backup requirements justify battery integration.

  • Peak-load management
  • PV self-consumption and energy shifting
  • Backup and critical-load applications
  • EMS-based load control
  • Integration with existing electrical infrastructure
03 / HYBRID

PV + BESS systems

Hybrid plants combining photovoltaic generation with battery storage. The BESS can be designed around an existing or planned point of interconnection.

  • Shared point of interconnection
  • Curtailment management
  • Energy shifting
  • Existing PV retrofit
  • Common MV infrastructure and controls

02 // ENGINEERING SCOPE

The battery is only one part of the system.

BESS projects require coordination between battery technology, power conversion, electrical infrastructure, controls, protection and the grid connection. Solart covers the interfaces between these systems.

From battery containers to the point of connection.

Our engineering scope can include the complete electrical and control architecture of the project. The exact scope is defined according to the project stage, connection requirements and EPC responsibility.

01

Battery system

Battery containers, LFP systems, BMS, HVAC, fire detection and associated auxiliary systems.

02

Power conversion

PCS selection and integration, operating modes, protection interfaces and control architecture.

03

MV / HV infrastructure

03 // PROJECT TYPES

Different projects require different architectures.

We work with developers, investors, industrial companies, EPC contractors and project owners at different stages of development.

UTILITY / DEVELOPER

04 // TECHNOLOGY & SUPPLY

Technology selected for the project.

Solart is not tied to a single battery platform. We select battery, PCS and control technologies according to project requirements, availability, technical compatibility and commercial conditions.

Technology-independent integration

The battery itself is only one part of a bankable BESS project. Our engineering work connects the selected equipment to the electrical infrastructure and the requirements of the grid operator.

Battery LFP containerised systems and other technologies where the project economics and application justify them.
PCS Bidirectional converters selected according to power rating, operating mode, grid requirements and system architecture.
EMS Plant-level control and energy management adapted to the intended operating strategy.
SCADA Monitoring, remote control and communication with the relevant electrical infrastructure.

05 // DELIVERY

From project parameters to commissioning.

The engineering sequence depends on the maturity of the project. Existing grid approvals, land, permits and equipment selections can be incorporated into the scope from the start.

01

Project screening

Location, target MW/MWh, grid connection, available land, application and project stage are reviewed to establish the technical scope.

02

06 // STARTING A PROJECT

Start with the project parameters.

You do not need a completed BESS specification before contacting us. We can work from the available project information and define the technical architecture from there.

  • Capacity Target power and energy, if known
  • Location Site, municipality or project coordinates
  • Grid Existing connection or planned connection point
  • Land Available area and site constraints
  • Application Grid services, trading, peak shaving, backup or hybrid
  • Project stage Concept, permitting, grid approval, RTB or existing plant
  • PV Existing or planned PV capacity, if applicable
  • Target COD Expected commissioning or investment timeline

07 // BESS FAQ

BESS engineering questions.

Can Solart supply the battery and PCS?

Yes. Depending on the project, Solart can coordinate equipment procurement together with the engineering and EPC scope. We work with established battery and power conversion manufacturers and select the equipment according to the project requirements.

Can you work with our existing BESS supplier?

Yes. The engineering scope can be structured around an equipment supplier already selected by the developer or investor. In that case we coordinate the required electrical, control, protection and grid interfaces.

Can Solart handle the MV or HV infrastructure?

Yes. MV/HV infrastructure is part of Solart's broader electrical engineering and EPC scope. Depending on the project, this can include transformers, switchgear, cable systems, protection, metering, SCADA interfaces and grid connection engineering up to 110 kV.

Can you add BESS to an existing PV plant?

Yes. Existing PV plants can be assessed for BESS integration. The available grid connection, transformer capacity, protection concept, metering and operating requirements determine the appropriate architecture.

Do you develop BESS projects with investors?

Yes. Solart works with project owners, developers and investors on technical development, co-development and EPC structures. Where appropriate, BESS projects can be developed together with the required grid, permitting and investment structure.

Which battery chemistry do you use?

LFP is currently the main chemistry used for the containerised BESS systems we evaluate because of its combination of cycle-life characteristics, thermal behaviour and commercial availability. The final technology selection is project-specific and depends on duration, power, operating profile, safety requirements and commercial conditions.

Which grid requirements do you design for?

Grid requirements are defined by the relevant network operator and project location. Solart coordinates the BESS electrical and control architecture with the applicable connection requirements, protection, metering, communication and commissioning procedures.
